In December 1977 a group of men, consisting of Kenneth Hicks,
Earl Brusche, Bob Butts and Carl Combs heard about a vault
company in Miami that was for sale. After some negotiating
with Thelma Mayer, the owner of Miami Wilbert, a contract
was signed. New ownership of Miami Wilbert did not last. Three
out of the four men were not willing to travel, so Carl Combs
of Carlton Vault (Coral Gables, FL) bought out their shares;
that left Kenneth Hicks and Carl Combs as owners of Miami
Wilbert.
After some time Carlton Vault and Miami Wilbert merged to
form one company, Carlton Wilbert Vaults, Inc. With the two
companies coming together they decided they need more manufacturing
space and purchased a parcel of land from Rinker located at
113th Avenue Road. This site is where currently Hicks Industries,
Inc. Main office currently resides.
The 1980s brought growth. Due to quality products and
excellent service provided by loyal and dedicated employees
who took great pride in their work Carlton Wilbert Vaults,
Inc. prospered. This allowed Carlton Wilbert to purchase both
Broward Vault Company of Pompano Beach, owned by Jim Yeandle,
and Anderson Vault of Ft. Lauderdale, owned by Dale Anderson.
This purchase brought about a larger territory providing an
opportunity for distributorship for Callaway Vault & Crematory
of Lake worth, FL and Clement Vaults of Ft. Myers, FL.
In 1987 Daniel J. Hicks, the sole and current owner of Hicks
Industries, Inc. became the Vice President of Carlton Wilbert
Vaults, Inc and 49% owner along with Kenneth Hicks at 51%.
Due to his vision and hard work he was able to create a new
division of Carlton Wilbert in Mulberry, FL. This division
was known as Carlton Vaults and opened for business in 1990.
In 1994 Daniel J. Hicks purchased the other 51% of Carlton
Wilbert Vaults from his father Kenneth J. Hicks leaving him
as the sole owner. Again in 1996 Dans vision grew to
create another division this time in the ready mix business.
Hicks Concrete Service was opened on the same lot as Carlton
Vault and has become a true competitor in its industry.
The purchase of Southern Vaults of Gainesville, FL from Bill
Richard brought more growth to Carlton Wilbert in 1997. To
create one familiar name all four divisions became Hicks Industries,
Inc. to better reflect and prosper as a whole unit in the
year of 1999.
Hicks Industries, Inc. is committed to becoming known as
a top quality supplier of ready mix concrete and burial products
in Florida. Growing through outstanding service in the funeral
and construction industry. We have made a commitment to customer
service, quality products, business ethics, our people, innovation,
